100 Good Wishes Quilt

Several months ago, I learned of a custom, originating in the northern part of China to make a “One Hundred Good Wishes Quilt” or “Bai Jia Bei” as it’s called in China, to celebrate a new life in the family. To create this quilt, one asks family and friends to each contribute two identical square patches of cloth. One square is assembled with the others to make a quilt. The second square along with your good wish is placed into a scrapbook.

I am beginning to gather patches for the quilt and scrapbook for our daughter. Would you consider contributing two matching squares (or more if you wish) along with a separate written wish or prayer for our child on a small card or piece of paper? The size of the squares should be “6x6”. The material should be a cotton fabric, either printed or solid—it’s your choice. You can contribute an old scrap of cloth or you can use a new piece of material. A wider variety of fabrics and colors will make the quilt more interesting. I would greatly appreciate the material and wishes you could send for our daughter. They will be treasured forever!

We hope to travel this summer to adopt our daughter, so if you could send your squares by Feb. 15, that would be fantastic!
